The Rio Vitoschio crag is set in a stunning landscape, along a nature trail that follows the stream of the same name up to Monte Nerone. Its short approach, the peaceful atmosphere, the breeze flowing through the gorge, and the small waterfalls along the brook make it a relaxing spot, perfect for families with children.
The crag is primarily a summer destination (it falls entirely into the shade in the afternoon, while morning climbing is restricted to the east side of the gorge). It was developed in 2002 by Mirko Muzzini, who bolted most of the classic routes. He was later joined by Behzad Fard, who from 2004 onwards established beautiful, airy routes, especially in the “Balcone” and “Porte” sectors. More recently, Robertino Fantozzi has added two prestigious routes of his caliber in the “Grottone” sector.
Since 2011, two additional sectors, “Belvedere” and “Notrace”, have been added. These are south-facing and therefore suitable for cooler periods; bolted by Michele Galeotti and Miro Rossi, they are designed as “no-big” sectors with difficulties ranging from 5a to 6c.
Its proximity to other renowned climbing sites, such as Fosso dell’Eremo, Balza della Penna, Carbonaie, Tinaccio, and Sasso del Re, makes it an ideal destination for climbing enthusiasts.
How to get there:From the A14 motorway: Exit at Fano and continue towards Cagli. Once in Acqualagna, exit the main road and head towards Piobbico. After passing through the town, continue towards Apecchio. After about 2 km, turn left onto a dirt road that leads directly to the base of the crag.
From Città di Castello: Head towards Piobbico. After about 8 km, turn right onto a dirt road that leads directly to the base of the crag.
(Parking is available approximately 100 meters before the crag or at the start of the dirt road.)

Among the most intriguing winter activities the mountain offers is snowtrekking. Moving through the snow with snowshoes is more than just a slow walk along evocative trails through snow-covered woods with falling snowflakes; it is about listening to the silence of nature in its quietest state, only to suddenly catch a glimpse of a wild animal passing by. Snowshoeing is an activity suitable for everyone, of any age.
